This free webinar looks at why a developmental approach to autism gets better long-term outcomes for autistic individuals\, than a behavioral one. \n                \n            \nWho this webinar is for\nThis session is open to anyone who is autistic\, or supports or works with autistic individuals: \n\nParents and caregivers looking for approaches that go beyond compliance\nTeachers\, therapists\, and support workers\n Anyone who has tried behavioral strategies and found the results weren’t what was expected\n\nWhat you’ll learn\n\nWhy behavior is often communication\, compensation\, or coping\, it is not the problem itself\nHow behavioral and developmental approaches differ in practice\nThe Davis Autism developmental framework: Individuation\, Identity Development\, and Social Integration\nWhat Davis-specific tools look like in practice\, including Auditory Orientation\, Concept of Self\, and our signature clay modelling\nA real before-and-after case example showing what developmental growth actually looks like\n\nBehavior is visible. Development is what’s underneath.\nMost autism interventions focus on what you can see: the meltdown\, the refusal\, the rigid rule-following. Behavioral approaches try to reduce or replace those responses using rewards\, repetition\, and prompts. That can produce short-term results — but the change often doesn’t transfer to new situations\, and it rarely builds the internal understanding that makes real independence possible. \nThe Davis developmental approach asks a different question: what developmental foundations need supporting? Behavior is often a sign that something underneath hasn’t been fully integrated yet. When you address that\, you get change that sticks. \nThe three developmental foundations\nThe Davis approach builds on three sequential stages. Each one depends on the last. \n1. Individuation — “I am Me”\nA grounded sense of self as separate from others and the environment. This underpins body awareness\, sensory regulation\, attention\, and self-regulation. In the Davis Autism Approach\, this is supported through Auditory Orientation and the Concept of Self. Without this foundation\, everything built on top is unstable. \n2. Identity Development\nLearning the concepts that help a person understand themselves and the world — not through repetition\, but through experience. The Davis approach uses clay modelling and real-life activities to make abstract concepts concrete and personally meaningful. This is where understanding actually forms. \n3. Social Integration\nThe ability to connect with others\, read social situations\, and respond flexibly. In Davis\, this stage addresses concepts like Another/Others\, types of relationships\, and a framework for decision-making. It can only develop once Individuation and Identity Development are in place. SUMMARY:Pod Week 1 – Online-New Zealand
DESCRIPTION:This training ensures professional standards of quality for providing 5-day Davis programs are fully developed and understood. Students work in groups of 3 (pods) under the supervision of a Davis Specialist\, in one of the following roles for a full week: \n\nProviding a 5-day Davis Program.\nReceiving a 5-day Program.\nObserving a Program.\n\nStudents must complete 3 pod weeks – one in each role. The roles are not done in a specific order\, e.g.\, some students may provide a program during their first Pod Week\, while others may provide a program in their third Pod Week. The Pod Weeks are scheduled by availability of roles: each group of three must have a provider\, a client\, and an observer. Therefore scheduling is subject to forming groups of three students who all have complimentary roles. The observing and providing roles may need to be repeated to improve skills. Includes individual supervisor consultations\, Client Kit in the “receive program” Pod Week\, and handbook of forms required for providing Davis programs. Group discussions and short lectures are led by a Specialist are held throughout the Pod Weeks. These further prepare a student for providing Davis programs in a professional\, business setting.
