DESCRIPTION:A 5-day workshop giving parents\, educators\, and professionals practical tools to support dyslexic individuals. Also the first step in training to become a licensed Davis Dyslexia Facilitator \nDyslexia isn’t a defect. It’s a different way of thinking.\nYour child is bright\, creative\, and perceptive\, yet reading feels like a battle every single day. Letters move. Words blur. The harder they try\, the more frustrated they get. And despite all the effort\, the gap between what they’re capable of and what they can do on paper just keeps growing. \nIf you support someone with dyslexia\, as a parent\, teacher\, or therapist\, you’ve probably already tried a lot. Phonics programs. Extra tutoring. Specialist assessments. Some things helped a little. Many didn’t. \nThe Davis Gift of Dyslexia® Workshop starts from a different premise entirely: dyslexia isn’t a defect or a structural problem. It stems from a perceptual talent\, the same ability that gives dyslexic individuals exceptional spatial awareness\, creativity\, and three-dimensional thinking. The problem is that no one has shown them how to control it. \nThis workshop gives you the tools to do that. \nWhat makes this different\nThe Davis Method was developed by Ron Davis\, who was labeled severely learning disabled as a child and struggled with reading until age 38\, when he discovered he was causing the symptoms\, and more importantly\, how to stop them. That discovery became the foundation of the Davis Method\, now used by trained facilitators in over 40 countries. \nThe approach works with how dyslexic individuals actually think\, in pictures\, not words. Rather than drilling phonics or forcing memorization\, it uses two core procedures: \nDavis Orientation Counseling gives the individual a way to control disorientation — the perceptual state that causes letters to move\, words to blur\, and confusion to spiral. Once they can turn disorientation off\, they can perceive written language accurately and consistently. \nDavis Symbol Mastery resolves the root cause of reading difficulty — the confusion about the meaning of letters\, words\, and language symbols. Using hands-on clay modeling\, the individual builds a genuine conceptual understanding of each symbol\, eliminating the confusion that triggers disorientation in the first place. \nNo drilling. No repetition for its own sake. No telling them to try harder. The roles are not done in a specific order\, e.g.\, some students may provide a program during their first Pod Week\, while others may provide a program in their third Pod Week. The Pod Weeks are scheduled by availability of roles: each group of three must have a provider\, a client\, and an observer. Therefore scheduling is subject to forming groups of three students who all have complimentary roles. The observing and providing roles may need to be repeated to improve skills. Includes individual supervisor consultations\, Client Kit in the “receive program” Pod Week\, and handbook of forms required for providing Davis programs.
