Davis sees dyslexia as a talent. It is the  ability to think multi-dimensionally\, to shift or alter mental and  physical perceptions. This explains why so many dyslexics are creative\,  offer unusual solutions to problems\, are very intuitive or have vivid  imaginations. \n  \nThe Davis Mastery for Dyslexia Programme helps the individual to discover his innate gift\, and to apply it to the  learning difficulty. In this way\, the blockages to effective learning  are removed. Axel is a licensed Davis Dyslexia Facilitator and Workshop Presenter and has worked with home Ed groups before.\n\n  \nWHEN \nThe classes will run on Monday and Thursday mornings from 9:00-12:00 for 5 weeks. You will have to commit to the full programme. \nStart date Monday 22 July 2024\, end date Thursday 22 August 2024. \n  \nWHERE \nThe classes will take place online on zoom. You work with your child\, supervised by the workshop presenter\, and then practice the procedures between sessions. \n  \nWHAT \nThe Programme includes \n– Focusing Tools including Orientation and coordination exercises \n–  Davis Symbol Mastery exercises. These involve the use of clay to model  the alphabet\, punctuation marks and the meaning of trigger words to  clear up any confusion \n– Davis Reading Exercises \nPlease note that you will be learning alongside your child so you can facilitate follow-up at home. \n  \nWHO \nWe  are looking for a group of 8 children minimum\, ideally aged 8+. In doing so\, we were determined to continue providing richly experiential training. So we explored and implemented numerous ways of ensuring this continued\, even across a digital screen. The feedback from our trainees has been so overwhelmingly positive that we decided to stay with the online model even when the risks from the pandemic started to wane. \n  \nThe Gift of Dyslexia online is still the Gift of Dyslexia. This is no dry webinar. We employ a host of creative innovations to ensure the same dynamic\, convivial\, hands-on experience that you would expect from any Davis methods workshop. Features of the online workshop experience include: \n\n“camera-on\, mic-on” interactive instruction\nshort video demonstrations of key procedures in a face-to-face setting\nanimated walk-throughs of our main procedures\nadapted pairwork practice in “breakout rooms”\ncontent review and Q&A sessions to reinforce your learning as you go along\nin-session use of plasticine clay\, so you can experience Davis Symbol Mastery hands-on.\n\nWe strongly recommend connecting to the sessions from a computer or large tablet. During the clay modelling sessions\, a second device (such as a smartphone) will be needed so that the Presenter and fellow-participants can see your face and your clay models at the same time. \n  \nYour Workshop Presenter \n  \nRichard Whitehead \nDirector\, Davis Workshop Presenter and Davis Specialist \nDavis Learning Strategies Workshop Presenter \nDavis Life Concepts for Autism Workshop Presenter \n  \nRichard has been a Davis Mastery for Dyslexia Programme Facilitator since 2002. Having been a classroom teacher for several  years\, he originally discovered the Davis methods when looking for a  solution for the son of some friends. \n​ \nHis  extensive background in education includes time spent teaching in both  the adult and mainstream secondary educational sectors. \n  \nRichard  has a keen interest in holistic approaches to health and learning;  alongside his dyslexia work\, he has run workshops on effective  parent/child communication based on the work of Adele Faber and Elaine  Mazlish. \nRichard has lectured and presented on the Davis learning methods in countries and cultures as diverse as the UK\, Ireland\, Iceland\, Estonia\, Poland\, Portugal\, Italy\, New Zealand and  the United States. \n​ \nRichard’s  original university education was as a linguist\, and he speaks several  European languages. Alongside Richard’s work with the Davis methods\, he  is also a Patoss-accredited Specialist Teacher Assessor\, specialising in  multilingual SpLD assessments for non-native speakers of English in the UK. \n​ \nRichard is author of the book Why Tyrannosaurus But Not If ?\, together with an accompanying free ‘A Taste of Davis Discovery Series’ fifteen-part e-mentoring course for teachers and parents of struggling learners\, a six-week practical course for parents and a practical workshop for teachers.  He has written articles on the dyslexic learning style for publications  as diverse as Literacy Today\, Green Parent Magazine and Personnel Today  magazine and has recorded video presentations on dyslexia for the  Dystalk project. \n​ \nRichard is also a Davis Autism Approach Facilitator and Coach and a Davis Concepts for Life Workshop Presenter.

SUMMARY:Licensing Training Pod (in German) – Online – Berlin\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Licensing Training Pod:\nThis training ensures professional standards of quality for providing 5-day Davis programs are fully developed and understood. Students work in groups of 3 (pods) under the supervision of a Davis Specialist\, in one of the following roles for a full week: \n\nProviding a Davis Program.\nReceiving a Davis Program.\nObserving a Davis Program.\n\nThe roles are not done in a specific order. Some students may provide a program during their first Pod Week\, while others may provide a program in their third Pod Week. Students work in groups of three under the direct supervision of a Davis Specialist. Each group consists of a provider\, a client\, and an observer. Therefore scheduling is subject to forming groups of three students who all have complementary roles. The observing and providing roles may need to be repeated to improve skills. \nIncludes individual supervisor consultations\, Client Kit in the “receive program” Pod Week\, and handbook of forms required for providing Davis programs. Group discussions and short lectures led by a Specialist are held throughout the Pod Weeks. These further prepare a student for providing Davis programs in a professional\, business setting.

SUMMARY:Licensing Training Pod (in German) – Online – Berlin\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Licensing Training Pod:\nThis training ensures professional standards of quality for providing 5-day Davis programs are fully developed and understood. Students work in groups of 3 (pods) under the supervision of a Davis Specialist\, in one of the following roles for a full week: \n\nProviding a Davis Program.\nReceiving a Davis Program.\nObserving a Davis Program.\n\nThe roles are not done in a specific order. Some students may provide a program during their first Pod Week\, while others may provide a program in their third Pod Week. Students work in groups of three under the direct supervision of a Davis Specialist. Each group consists of a provider\, a client\, and an observer. Therefore scheduling is subject to forming groups of three students who all have complementary roles. The observing and providing roles may need to be repeated to improve skills. \nIncludes individual supervisor consultations\, Client Kit in the “receive program” Pod Week\, and handbook of forms required for providing Davis programs. Group discussions and short lectures led by a Specialist are held throughout the Pod Weeks. These further prepare a student for providing Davis programs in a professional\, business setting.

SUMMARY:Basic Practice Meeting – Online/Wellington

Its purpose is to refine counsellor skills\, and develop increased experiential understanding of dyslexic perception\, thinking\, learning style and process. It provides intensive supervised practice in small groups of the basic Davis procedures and is focused on improving technical skills. This course may be required to be repeated to improve skills for those wishing to pursue licensing as Davis Facilitators. Includes individual Specialist consultation. Note: Basic Field Assignments must be submitted 21 days before workshop starts. This course must be done with the same Specialist who reads and evaluates these Basic Field Assignments.
